Company Overview
Our World in Data is a nonprofit educational web publication with a focus on large global problems and international development. We're focused on increasing the use of data and evidence to make progress against the world’s largest problems. Among those who rely on our work are international organisations, the governments of countries around the world, major businesses and news outlets.
This is an exciting time to join us. We are growing quickly and our projects have a huge positive impact. Our team’s work is referenced in about 50,000 media articles annually, and now during the pandemic we are producing the datasets and infrastructure that inform billions of people around the world. Millions of people visit OWID every month and our data has an even wider reach, as it is used by institutions like Google, the WHO, and the New York Times.
Notable Accomplishments / Recognition
We have big plans for the coming decades, but we are already having an impact. Several million readers come to our site every month. Our work is very regularly covered by the media; our publication is informing many writers in their often widely read work; our writing is widely shared through social media; and we are regularly cited in top journals including Science and Nature.
For many relevant search queries – 'COVID-19', ‘CO2 emissions’, ‘world poverty’, ‘child mortality’, ‘population growth’ – we are one of the top search results in many parts of the world. And our work is commonly used as teaching material in schools and top universities.
We design our work with the aim of generating an impact beyond what our team can achieve directly. By producing charts and data that can be freely downloaded and embedded in others’ work, we support and empower colleagues in policy, media and civil society also working on the problems we focus on. This is why all the work we ever do is made available in its entirety as a public good.
